Q:Is Annapurna region trek is dangerous ?
A: Yes and no. Altitude can kill but it isn’t likely. If you take your time and acclimatize properly you should be fine. some lowland Part have no problrm of Altitude

Q: Is the trek difficult or easy?
A: It is a moderate level hike. There are easy afternoons of rolling flats and difficult steep climbs but overall it is manageable for someone with little or no trekking experience. With proper training you should be able to complete the trek. However, even with proper training you can get altitude sickness which means you must return to a lower elevation.

Q: Do you need travel insurance for Annapurna Trekking ?
A: Yes. Definitely purchase travel insurance and make sure it will cover you at high altitudes. If you need to be airlifted down you will want to be covered by your insurance

Q: How likely is altitude sickness?
A: Unless you live at a high altitude it is impossible to truly train for the altitude. Altitude sickness (AMS) can strike anyone no matter your fitness lever. The key is to take your time and walk slow. A good rule of thumb is to climb high and sleep low to help with acclimatization. In groups of trekkers there are people who do not make it but my group of 6 all made it. Anyone can make it but take your time on the way up.

Q: Can I drink the tap water on the trek or buy it all the way?
A: You can save money  and environment (and plastic bottles) by packing iodine pills to purify your water. This method of choice every morning before the trek. I used the tap to fill up my bottle  every morning and again at lunch/dinner. I followed the instructions of my guide but resumed using tap water on the way down.

Q: How much water should I drink?
A: Water is very important while trekking and at high altitudes. Drink 3 liters before lunch and 3 liters after. I tried to drink less after dinner to minimize cold bathroom breaks in the middle of the night. Getting out of your warm sleeping bag isn’t fun. I recommend drinking at least 4 liters a day

Q: How many hours we need to trek everyday ?
A: 4 to 7 hours a day.

What to Bring more Details:
Sleeping bag
Down-filled bags are better. Beg, borrow or steal a good one (i.e. 4-5 season) because high altitude nights will be cool. Good down is fluffy, light and thick. A muff (an extra section around the neck) makes a big difference to the overall warmth of a bag. Reasonable sleeping bags are cheaply available for rent in Kathmandu. Alternatively add a fleece sleeping bag liner to add warmth to a 3-4 season bag.

Sleeping bag liner
Cotton, silk or fleece saves washing your sleeping bag and adds warmth.

Fleece jacket
Mostly trekkers consider this essential but alternatives are a thick thermal top or a light down jacket. In Kathmandu you can get almost any sort of copy fleece you need, but for good quality you can purchase on your home.

Down jacket/Gore-Tex
Down jacket is really needed for the 2 weeks trek although trekking up to 3000m also cold in the evening and morning. If you don’t have it and wanted to use for only Nepal trekking you can rented in Kathmandu in less than a dollar.

Rain Jacket/ Wind Shell:
The jacket should be very water repellent and roomy. Coated nylon or a waterproof/breathable fabric such as Gore-tex, a nylon or synthetic; can be used as a both rain and a wind jacket

Day-wear T-shirts/Shirts
On the lower altitude trekking weather will be hot, T-shirts and shirts are recommended

Thermal shirts/underwear
Good thermals, both tops and bottoms are the best for cold weather in trekking

Nightwear thermals
Good for making warm nights in the sleeping bag, Silk-weight is lightest and warm,

Fleece/sweatpants
Good for the cold evening and morning

Footwear:
One pair of sturdy light to middleweight hiking boots is necessary. Typically these are combination of nylon and leather. We suggest boots with a Gore-tex lining to be waterproof. These types of shoes have a lug sole for good traction and provide lateral support for the ankles that is essential while hiking (for example; the Vasque Clarion and the Asolo Approach). Heavy-weight all-leather backpacking boots are not recommended. Be sure your footwear is broken in and fits well. Boots should fit comfortably over one thin liner sock and a mid-weight wool sock. This reduces chafing and blisters. Tennis shoes or sandals are also useful for in camp use or bathing.

Camp shoes/sandals/flip-flops
Some times are necessary for showers and Dining room

Socks:
Four pairs of liner socks and four pairs of mid-weight wool socks to be carried. Socks and footwear should be coordinated for a proper fit.

Back pack
If you plan on trekking, a sturdy and comfortable back pack and day pack would be much more comfortable than suitcase. You should have your back pack expertly fitted to you. Your backpack should also have a waterproof cover.

Daypack
This should be comfortable and a good waist band that transfers some of the weight to the hips is most important. It needs to be big enough to take a jacket, fleece, water, camera and odds and ends. Kathmandu now offers a range of cheap fall-part packs to top of the range.

Sun hat/woolen hat
You can bring the hat or small cap to protect from day Sunburn. On the upper part of trek more cold and windy so you can have woolen hat to make your head warmer.

Mittens/gloves
A good pair of wind-proof gloves is essential. You can buy in Kathmandu cheap if you don’t have it.

Neck gaiter
Nice for winter trekking, they are really the best for staying warm.

Sunglasses
Good wraparound glasses suitable for snow, it's bright up there, but specialized glacier glasses with side pieces are not needed. Contact lens wearers report very few problems except cleaning them in the conditions.

Trekking pants
Recommended having 2 pairs

Wind pants
If your trekking pants are reasonably windproof then special wind pants are not needed. If you do bring a pair, it is not necessary to have Gore-tex or similar non-waterproof.

Underwear :
Regular everyday type.

Sunscreen and lip balm with sunscreen
Bring at least sunscreen and lip balm with SPF 15, and better still SPF 30+. You can buy these in Kathmandu.

Toiletries
Bring toiletries like soap, razors, shampoo, nail scissors, hair products, toothbrush and toothpaste, tissues, sunscreen, chap stick, antiseptic hand wipes and face washer.

Moisturizer
The air is dry and windier with dust some part of the trek so moisturizer is good to care for skins.

Trekking poles
Trekking poles are very useful especially for downhill, in popular trekking in Nepal you can buy the wooden trekking poles selling by children, trekking can be done without trekking poles also

Water bottle
Two 1 liters water bottles are recommended.  Bring the good one to take boiling water and be leak proof. European Aluminum bottles are the best.

Torch / Flashlight
Flashlight or head lamp is necessary, bring extra bulb and batteries.

Towel
During the trekking guest houses rarely provide towels but hotel in the city like Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan supplies the towels. Bring the small and light towel for trekking.

Sun hat/woolen hat
You can bring the hat or small cap to protect from day Sunburn. On the upper part of trek more cold and windy so you can have woolen hat to make your head warmer.

Water purification
In some places on the tea house trek we can buy the Mineral water but it is discourage for an environmental point of view because of the plastic bottles. We can get Hot and boiled water from the guest house. Iodine tablets and water purification drop chlorine is recommended to take.

First aid kit
About the First aid Kit please contact your Family doctor or your senior medical consult and Bring your necessary things from your country which is more reliable for you ( If you have daily uses Medicine don"t  forget to bring , If possible bring some extra medicine )

Layering:
Keeping the correct temperature is finest accomplished by adding or taking off layers of clothing. While hiking during the day, you may be in shorts or skirt and a long-sleeved shirt. During the evening, as the temperature cools, you will add a sweater and perhaps a parka. Make sure that your clothing is sized to allow your layers and still move comfortably. This will prepare you for any weather extremes or unexpected situations that may arise.

Buying and renting equipment in Kathmandu
Kathmandu has ranges of good trekking stores and you can get every needed thing for the trekking. North Face, Mountain Hardwear and other big show rooms are in Thamel and other centers. Easy to rent items are down jacket and sleeping bag, most of the things are fake but you get on good price. Shoes are recommended to buy from your home

 Official Papers:
Valid passport, 3 extra passport photographs (for trekking permits), travel insurance, airline tickets, luggage tags. Visas can be obtained upon entry into Nepal visit our visa page for the details

Physically Preparation
Annapurna Region Trekking route is not a technical climbing but remember you have to walk above 1000m to 5545m from sea level. At least 3 to 4 months before trek you have to train your body to complete this trek. Cycling, running, and stair climbing about 1 hour a few times a week is the best way to train and prepare your legs for trek. Yoga is a great way to stretch and strengthen your muscles.

Keep Walking around your Places
Yes, you must be going for a walk, not only inside your house need to walk  quite longer one. Morning is the best time for walking. So, go for morning walk. Jogging for couple of hours with friends or family is a good way to burn your fat, increase your stamina and spend some quality time with family. Slowly increase your time, at least 2-3 hours of regular jogging is recommended. Before you embark for trekking in Nepal, you must feel confident in your fitness and comfortable during the trip.

Workout on your legs:
Stronger the legs you have more it will be easy while walking on the trails. Therefore it is recommended that you work on your legs, build some strong leg muscles and join in any of treks like walk in a park. Most popular leg based exercises are playing football, skipping and cycling. Or simply take stairs on the way up and down the building. And if you love to workout at gym, then spend some more time in cycling sets. This certainly enhances your fitness and builds up your confidence.

Carry a bag while jogging or walking:
Simply carry a weight on your back quite similar to one that you will be carrying on a trek. And if possible carry some extra weight, it helps you feel a lil bit easy and comfortable while trekking in Nepal. Drink plenty of water
your body will be dehydrate faster in high altitudes than at sea level so it is very important to drink water throughout the day. Water can be purified from mountain streams, boiled in tea houses, or our less favorite and not environmentally conscious way is to buy bottled water along the way.

Slowly but Surely Do not walk fast
Always maintain your walking pace during the Annapurna Region Trekking Route. Dont run if the trail is flat and easy! Remember you are in marathon! The more you push yourself, the more difficult the days will be ahead, and the more difficult it will be to adjust to the altitude. Follow your guides instructions, they are the experts.

In this way you can really increase your stamina to optimum point from where trekking in Nepal will be even more fun filled, less stressful and unforgettable holidays around the Himalayas.

Best time for Annapurna region Trekking

Peak season

Mid september  – Mid December
This is the most popular Trekking season in Annapurna Region  . Because of the recent monsoon, everything along the Trekking Area is refreshed, clean and vibrant. Views are usually clear and the weather is generally warm. Night time temperatures drop below freezing still, however, the night skies are often extremely clear. This is the busiest period on the Annapurna Region Trekking

March – May
Towards March the rhododendrons start flowering which brings hill sides alive with flaming colours. Because of the warming weather, this is the second most popular trekking season on the Annapurna region. Most of the snow has dissipated, leaving crystal clear skies. There is often a strange haze that can be seen from the lower altitudes during May. However, this soon passes and cannot be seen from higher up the trail. As the monsoon period builds towards the end of may, the days become hotter and more humid which makes trekking at lower altitude quite uncomfortable.

Off  Peak Season
Mid December – February
This is the coldest period in the Annapurna Region . Depending on your altitude, day time temperatures will be cold and night time temperatures get well below freezing. The trade off is that the trails are much less busy. Thorung La Pass (After Manang) , Annapurna Base camp ( after Himalayas Hotel) are  often blocked with snow and may be closed days on end.   Unless the snow blocks most trails, tea houses still remain open during this period  Some other short trekking route are open Like Ghorepani Poonhill trekking, Panchase trekking. Clouds prevail more frequently, but there clear days are still common.

June – Mid September
This is the monsoon period. Although there are stories of torrential downpours, mudslides and hordes of leeches, this is rarely the case on the Annapurna Circuit, particular the northern section. Whilst the south section of the Annapurna Circuit near Pokhara does get a lot of rain, the northern parts often receive less than 10% due to its location within a rain shadow. The plus side of trekking in the monsoon period is that many of the flora species flower during this period, making the trek exceptionally beautiful
